LSGD – REBUILD KERALA INITIATIVE
The magnitude of the disaster caused in the floods of August 2018 was unprecedented in the history of Kerala. The Government established the Rebuild Kerala Initiative (RKI) to bring change in the lives and livelihood by adopting higher standards of infrastructure The Civil Engineering Department was invited to be a part of this initiative. Different road segments in different parts of Idukki District had to be surveyed . Third year students took responsibility of the daunting task. The tasks included transect work, total station surveying and soil sample collection for further testing. Students and faculty were involved in total station survey, collection of soil sample, testing, report preparation.The roads under investigation are kurppasami kovil- mamachanpady, factorypadi - karinthuruvi road ,old post office – sooryakanthykavala road.The facultiesGeorge Mohan,Deepak John,Bennett Jose,Varkey M V, Belarmin Xavier, Tom Jaocb , Ajai Thampi, Anishmon Jose guided the team.Kiran Kurian, Jomin Joice ,Girinath, Lino,Samuel Johnson were the students.Transect walk, field survey using total station and soil investigation are the work done on site.
JAL JEEVAN MISSION IMPLEMENTATION-PARATHODU GRAMA PANCHAYATH.
Jal Jeevan Mission is a Project under the Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Govt of India, which is envisioned to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections by 2024 to all households in rural India. In Kerala the project is being implemented by Kerala Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency. The department of Civil Engineering, AJCE was selected as the implementing partner for JJM in Parathodu Panchayat. To kick off the project the water quality analysis camp was conducted at Podimattom Church Parish Hall on 8th -10th Feb 2021. During the implementation of the programme the students will be used to conduct engineering surveys, preparation of Detailed Engineering Reports, assisting community-based water quality monitoring and surveillance programmes, which will be hands on experience building for the upcoming engineering graduates.
NATIONAL GREEN TRIBUNAL –POLLUTION ABATMENT OF RIVERS
Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) had identified 351 river stretches as polluted river stretches in India for not meeting the prescribed water quality standards, of which 21 river stretches are in Kerala . The NGT has asked the Water Resources Department Govt of Kerala to implement the project in Kerala and the water resources department has contacted the engineering colleges for collaboration to implement the project. The department of Civil Engineering, AJCE was selected as the implementing partner for Manimala river along with IDRB( irrigation design and research board), SJCET Pala and RIT Pambady. The preliminary water quality survey was done after the transect walk conducted along with officials from the irrigation department. The detailed project report for pollution abatement of Kallooppara to Thondra stretch of Manimala river was prepared based on the survey and necessary data provided by the irrigation department.
“RAINBOW 2022” PROJECT OF DIOCESE OF KANJIRAPALLY
“Rainbow-2021” is a restoration project to rehabiltate families in the kanjirappally Diocese who lost their homes, farmlands and possessions in the unprecedented flood and landslides of 16 October, 2021. The Department of Civil Engineering provide technical services like field surveys, preparation of site plans, building plans, designs, and technical support for the construction of 41 houses in this project.
