Welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering — where we build engineers who lay the foundations of a thriving country and shape infrastructure for the well-being of people.
Construction is an important aspect for solidifying the foundations of a thriving country and creating bases for the well-being of the people.
Established in 2006, the Department of Civil Engineering focuses on becoming a premium provider of technical higher education, research and support services — capable of moulding students with the requisite technical background to empower society.
The department had a humble beginning with 57 students, 5 faculty members and 2 labs, which has flourished over the years to provide state-of-the-art facilities — equipped with various instruments and software — with an intake of 60 students per year for the B.Tech Civil Engineering programme.
We now have 32 faculty members specialised in various streams of Civil Engineering. The department is also recognised as a research centre by the KTU for the Ph.D programme.
Beyond the regular KTU syllabus, the programme spans the full breadth of civil engineering practice:
Well-qualified and experienced faculty provide hands-on sessions by involving students in projects of the Central and State Government and private construction companies. The department is also active in carrying out consultancy work for various government and private sectors — testing the quality of materials such as concrete, brick, cement concrete block, soil, compost, water, bitumen, aggregates and steel reinforcement.
We have Government Officials, Design Engineers and Managers in construction companies and successful Entrepreneurs that testify to our quality of education. The department is marching on in its successful journey, with the motto of producing eminent Civil Engineers for society.
