The Department of Food Technology started in 2019, and in a short span of time, established an unparalleled reputation in teaching and research. The Department has a diverse and powerful faculty encompassing unique experts in Food Microbiology, Food Processing and Preservation, Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering.
Having collaborations with various food industries and other reputed institutions in India, the Department actively nurtures manpower development by offering a 4-year B.Tech in Food Technology. The highly competent and experienced faculty have inspired excellence, innovation and strong entrepreneurial skills.
The Department has 4 specialised laboratories with modern equipment and qualified lab staff. Students are exposed to domain experts through seminars, symposia, workshops and conferences at national and international levels. They engage in in-house projects under faculty guidance — fostering scientific temper and technology-driven innovation.
Students are further empowered with a department library stacked with reference books and international journals, a sophisticated computer lab with internet connectivity, and the activities of the Department Association that nurtures extra-curricular and nascent skills.
The present infrastructure of the department includes LAF (Laminar Air Flow), gel documentation, biofermenter, compound microscope, deep freezers (-20°C), UV-VIS spectrophotometer, autoclave, viscometer and many more research instruments.
The Department has taken a lead in social responsibility and harnessing energy from waste by training neighbouring households in the use of aerobic bins, conducting awareness programmes and surveys — safeguarding the environment from hazardous wastes and enhancing the bio-conversion of organic waste.
