01 · About the Department

A vibrant centre for chemical engineering education

The Department of Chemical Engineering at Amal Jyothi College of Engineering (Autonomous), established in 2013, has consistently focused on academic excellence, research, innovation and industry-oriented learning. Over the years it has developed into a vibrant centre for engineering education, preparing students to meet the evolving demands of the chemical, environmental, energy and process industries.

The department offers two flagship programmes:

B.Tech Chemical Engineering

Four-year programme with strong fundamentals in material & energy balance, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, transport phenomena, reaction engineering, process control and plant design — integrated with AI, process simulation and Industry 4.0.

M.Tech Environmental Engineering

Advanced postgraduate programme focused on water & wastewater treatment, solid waste management, pollution control, environmental impact assessment and sustainable engineering solutions.

Faculty strength: 6 Ph.D holders, 1 Associate Professor, 10 Assistant Professors and 3 experienced laboratory staff — with expertise spanning process engineering, environmental engineering, biochemical engineering, reaction engineering and data-driven process optimisation.

9 core laboratories · 18 credits of hands-on training

Students benefit from excellent laboratory infrastructure and hands-on training through well-equipped specialised laboratories. The department also houses sophisticated analytical instruments including a Brookfield Digital Viscometer, Trinocular Biological Microscope (LM-52-1803D) and UV-VIS Spectrophotometer.

Students gain significant practical experience through structured project and internship components totalling 14 credits:

Mini Project

Early-stage project work developing problem-solving, design and team-work capabilities.

Summer Industrial Internship

Structured summer placement with partner industries — petrochemical, pharmaceutical and process companies.

Project Phase I

Final-year research/design project foundation — literature survey, problem formulation and preliminary work.

Project Phase II / Internship

Capstone delivery — full implementation, experimental validation and industry-linked internship option.
